Teleny -- Oscar Wilde -- Chapter 6

We've somehow dropped the ball on Teleny, the erotic novel attributed to Oscar Wilde. Since posting the first chapter in August we did nothing, and now we're leapfrogging to Chapter 6. Interested readers can consult the intermediate chapters here. The cover picture is by Ali Franco

In Chapter 1, the narrator Camille des Grieux gets very close to Monsieur Teleny, a charismatic pianist modeled on Franz Liszt. In the intervening chapters (2-5), Camille gets involved in the regrettable, yet typical misunderstandings of a romance novel, culminating in the suicide of his mother's parlor maid. But Camille cannot let go of the pianist.
